Deworming Initiative

Deworming Initiative

Thanks to you, the deworming initiative we launched last year is making an enormous impact. We have begun but there is much more to do. Parasitic worms feed off the human body and children are particularly susceptible. Children drink from contaminated sources and play in contaminated soil. This introduces the parasite to their bodies and diminishes their physical growth and ability to learn in their formative years. The effects last a lifetime. Our initial vision was to provide deworming protocols to 43,964 students in 110 primary schools. The deworming program includes distribution of medicine, education, and environmental improvements. Children receive medicine distributed by the school health officials. This medicine will cure the devastating effects of this parasite and eliminate it from their bodies. Curing the effects allows the children to better develop both physically and mentally. The short-term effectiveness of the program will be measured by a decrease in symptoms, such as weight loss, lack of appetite, drowsiness, skin rashes, and inability to concentrate on their studies. The long-term effects of this treatment will be significant as children are better prepared to be productive members of society.
